Kollam, Kerala: A 34-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly smuggling synthetic drug MDMA worth several lakhs from Bengaluru, police officials confirmed on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Anila Raveendran from Anchalummoodu, was apprehended on Friday evening by the Sakthikulangara police and the Kollam City Police District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF).

According to police reports, Anila was traveling by car from Bengaluru when officers attempted to stop her vehicle near the Neendakara bridge. The driver attempted to flee, triggering a brief chase before police managed to intercept the car.

Upon inspection, officers discovered 50 grams of MDMA inside the vehicle. Further medical examination revealed that the woman had concealed an additional 40 grams of the drug in her body, bringing the estimated total to around 90 grams.

Police sources stated that Anila had been smuggling MDMA for distribution among students in schools and colleges. The vehicle used in the smuggling attempt was also seized as part of the investigation.

Authorities also revealed that Anila had a previous record related to MDMA trafficking. Further investigation is underway to uncover potential links to larger drug networks.
