Veteran actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan, who recently became a Rajya Sabha MP, opened up emotionally about fulfilling a long-cherished dream of his late mother — securing a government job.

Speaking at the Hortus Art and Literature Festival in Kerala, during an interaction with actor Manju Warrier, Kamal recalled the moment he signed the official documents after entering Parliament.

Kamal shared that he had been a school dropout, and his mother often told him that if he had at least completed his SSLC, he could have landed a railway job. “When I signed the papers, the first thing that came to my mind was my father and mother,” he said.

He added that after decades of achievements in cinema, it was only at the age of 71 that he officially received a government position.
“Suddenly, I wanted to call my mother and tell her that I finally have a government job,” Kamal said, describing the moment as one filled with pride and emotion.

Kamal revealed that serving people through politics gives him immense satisfaction, aligning with his long-standing desire to contribute to society. He also referred to himself as a centrist, explaining that his production house, Raaj Kamal Films International, supports subjects that match his ideology.
