Kochi: Actor Chandu Salimkumar, son of renowned Malayalam actor Salim Kumar, has issued a strong rebuttal to fellow actor Vinayakan over a recent social media post that indirectly criticized his father. The controversy began when Vinayakan took to Facebook to express dissatisfaction with what he perceived as hypocrisy or double standards in the film industry — a post many interpreted as being aimed at Salim Kumar.
In his response, Chandu pointed out the contradiction in Vinayakan’s stance, highlighting that the same person who once praised his father’s acting prowess is now choosing to demean him.
“Isn’t it ironic that someone who once held my father in high regard is now criticizing him in public? What changed?” Chandu wrote, taking to his own social media account.
The exchange has drawn attention from fans and the Malayalam film fraternity alike, with many expressing disappointment at the public spat. Chandu emphasized that while criticism is acceptable, it should be consistent and respectful, especially when it involves someone with a long-standing legacy in cinema.
Salim Kumar, known for both his comic and serious roles, is one of Malayalam cinema’s most respected actors, having won the National Award for Best Actor.
Neither Vinayakan nor Salim Kumar has issued any further statements at the time of reporting.
