Tharun Moorthy, currently one of the most talked-about directors in Malayalam cinema, is gearing up for his fourth directorial venture — and this time, he’s teaming up with actor Asif Ali. The film, reportedly an action-packed entertainer, will be set in Bengaluru and is slated to begin production by the end of 2025.

Tharun, who made his directorial debut with the cybercrime thriller Operation Java, followed by the critically acclaimed courtroom drama Saudi Vellakka, has been riding high on the success of his latest film Thudarum. The film, which hit theatres on April 25, has received glowing reviews and thrilled fans with a stellar performance from Mohanlal, who reunited with Shobana on-screen after years.

A consistent presence in Tharun’s films has been actor Binu Pappu, son of the late legendary actor Kuthiravattam Pappu. Binu played a key role in Thudarum as a police officer and also managed production logistics and creative support for the film. He will also be closely involved in the upcoming Asif Ali-starrer, as the story is based on an idea he developed. Interestingly, before entering cinema, Binu spent many years working and living in Bengaluru — the very city in which the new film is set.

The upcoming project will be produced by Ashiq Usman, with pre-production beginning in May 2025. Binu Pappu has also hinted at future plans to direct, but only after he completes this venture with Tharun.

As anticipation builds around this new collaboration, fans of Malayalam cinema can expect yet another grounded, high-impact story from Tharun Moorthy, a filmmaker who continues to surprise and impress with every project.
