Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is facing serious allegations in a rape case, is believed to have been hiding at a resort in Bagalur, situated near the Tamil Nadu–Karnataka border, before fleeing moments ahead of the police arrival. According to reports, Rahul reached the resort on Sunday and then escaped into Karnataka using multiple vehicles to evade detection. His anticipatory bail plea will be heard in court on Wednesday.
Six days on the run
Rahul has been absconding for six days since the allegations became public. Investigators have traced his route:
- He traveled to Pollachi on Thursday evening
- Then crossed into Coimbatore
- He avoided major highways
- Used the rural Kozhinjampara route along the Palakkad–Coimbatore border
Police currently believe Rahul is no longer in Palakkad. They also suspect that Joby Joseph, the second accused in the case, may be traveling with him.
Actress’s car linked to escape
A major twist emerged when police found that the red Volkswagen Polo allegedly used during Rahul’s escape belongs to a film actress who had recently attended the inauguration of Rahul’s housing project.
Key developments:
- The actress reportedly arrived in Palakkad using the same car
- Investigators are probing how Rahul gained access to the vehicle
- The actress, now in Bengaluru, is likely to be questioned
- The vehicle was parked for two days at the home of a senior Congress leader in Palakkad
Police are examining whether the leader had any role in helping Rahul evade arrest.
Political blame game intensifies
The BJP has accused senior Congress leaders of shielding Rahul.
However, KPCC General Secretary C. Chandran dismissed these accusations as politically motivated, stating that the Congress leadership is not involved in any wrongdoing.
The police investigation is ongoing, with multiple angles — including political links and interstate movements — now under scrutiny.
