Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair an important meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday at Seva Teerth in New Delhi, with all Union ministers directed to remain in the national capital ahead of the high-level discussions.
The meeting, scheduled for 4 pm, will be held shortly after the Prime Minister returns from his overseas visit. It is expected to witness the participation of Union Cabinet ministers, Ministers of State with independent charge, and Ministers of State.
According to reports, the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its potential economic impact on India are likely to dominate the agenda. The Centre is closely assessing developments related to crude oil prices, fuel availability, supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures amid rising geopolitical tensions in the region.
The government has already formed an informal high-level group of ministers headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to monitor the evolving crisis and recommend measures to minimise any adverse impact on India’s economy and energy security. Senior ministers including Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman and Hardeep Singh Puri are also part of the group.
Recently, Rajnath Singh assured that the government is maintaining continuous monitoring of crude oil, LPG and energy supplies, stating that India currently has sufficient stock and there is no immediate concern.
The meeting has also triggered fresh political speculation over a possible Cabinet reshuffle and expansion in the Modi 3.0 government ahead of its first anniversary on June 10. Sources suggest the leadership is reviewing the performance of ministries and organisational functioning, with potential changes in the Union Council of Ministers likely to take place during the second week of June.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to review both the geopolitical and domestic political situation during the crucial meeting.
