Jagathy Sreekumar Returns to the Big Screen With Style and Swagger in Sci-Fi Zombie Film ‘Vala’
Dubai: The wait is over. Malayalam cinema legend Jagathy Sreekumar is officially back — and he’s doing it in the most unforgettable way imaginable. After a long hiatus due to a near-fatal accident in 2012, the iconic actor makes a full-length comeback in Arun Chandu’s upcoming sci-fi entertainer Vala.
In a wheelchair, sporting sunglasses, and oozing charisma, Jagathy takes center stage in the teaser released on May 7, playing the eccentric and fearless Professor Ambili, a.k.a. Uncle Lunar — a role tailor-made for the actor’s unmatched wit and screen presence.
The teaser is not just a sneak peek. It’s a statement. A celebration of resilience. A salute to one of Malayalam cinema’s most beloved performers. And when the teaser says, “Welcome back, sir!” — it’s not just a line. It’s a collective emotion.
A Comeback Years in the Making
Jagathy’s career was abruptly paused following a devastating car accident in 2012 that left the film industry and fans in shock. After years of intense recovery and only minor public appearances, Vala marks his first full-scale comeback, and fans are already hailing it as “legendary.”
Directed by Arun Chandu (of Gaganachari fame), Vala is set in a dystopian world plagued by the undead. Jagathy leads a wild team including Basil Joseph, Aju Varghese, Gokul Suresh, and Madhav Suresh. Anarkali Marikar plays his estranged daughter, adding emotional depth to the action.
Adding more flavor to the madness are appearances by Vineeth Sreenivasan, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, and a talking cat named Thankachan, voiced by veteran actor Janardanan.
Is a Malayalam Multiverse in the Making?
Fans speculate that Vala might be linked to the Gaganachari universe, hinting at the possibility of a Malayalam sci-fi multiverse — a concept the industry hasn’t explored on this scale before.
Set for a 2026 theatrical release, Vala promises a stylized, genre-blending rollercoaster of a film. But at its heart, it’s a tribute to an actor who has survived, healed, and now returned to the screen with unshakable style.
Jagathy Sreekumar isn’t just back — he’s redefining what a comeback looks like.
