A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru on Thursday night when a 31-year-old bank manager, identified as Megharaj, was found dead inside the bathroom of a popular pub in Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar). The incident occurred at 1522 Bar, and police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 (C) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to DCP (West) S. Girish, Megharaj, who worked as a manager at Jana Small Finance Bank, had gone to the bar along with three friends. After having their meal and paying the bill, Megharaj went to the restroom while his friends stepped outside. When he didn’t return after some time, his friends went back in search of him and, upon checking CCTV footage, saw that he had locked himself inside the washroom.

Police said the door was forcibly opened, and Megharaj was found unresponsive inside. The Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) and the local police arrived at the spot to conduct an investigation.

The body has been sent for postmortem, and the exact cause of death will be known after the medical report is released. Police have recorded a complaint from the deceased’s brother, Vinay, and further investigation is in progress.

The deceased is survived by his wife and six-month-old baby, adding a tragic dimension to the case.

Authorities recalled a similar incident from June 2019, when a marketing manager and his friend died after accidentally falling from the window of another Bengaluru pub. That case too had highlighted safety and oversight concerns in city nightlife establishments.

Police are now verifying whether there was any medical condition, foul play, or accidental cause in the current case.
