Kochi: South Indian actress Anupama Parameswaran has filed a cybercrime complaint against a 20-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu for allegedly spreading false, defamatory, and inappropriate content about her and her family on social media. The actress took legal action after discovering that the individual had created multiple fake Instagram accounts to circulate morphed images and baseless allegations, targeting her and her close ones.
In a detailed Instagram post, Anupama opened up about her ordeal, stating,
“A few days ago, it came to my notice that an Instagram profile was circulating extremely inappropriate and false content about me, my family, and even tagging my friends and co-actors. The posts included morphed pictures and baseless allegations — it was deeply distressing to witness such targeted harassment online.”
The Kerala Cyber Crime Police have registered her complaint and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Emphasizing the need for online accountability, the actress said,
“Owning a smartphone or having access to social media platforms does not give anyone the right to harass, defame, or spread hatred against others. Every action online leaves a trace, and accountability will follow.”
Anupama further revealed that the 20-year-old accused had used several fake accounts to spread hate and malicious content, but she chose not to reveal the young girl’s identity, citing her age and the need for awareness rather than retribution.
Her statement highlights the growing issue of cyberbullying and online defamation, urging netizens to use social media responsibly and understand that digital misconduct can lead to legal consequences.
