In a major political development after the Bihar assembly elections, senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed has resigned from the party and levelled serious allegations against its leadership. Ahmed accused the Congress of poor strategy and internal mismanagement, directly questioning the credibility of Rahul Gandhi’s campaign narrative.
Ahmed criticised Rahul Gandhi’s ‘vote chori yatra’, claiming the rallies were largely attended by party workers rather than genuine voters alleging disenfranchisement. He argued that the Congress failed to build real public momentum, even as it tried to portray widespread anger among Bihar’s electorate.
Addressing the party’s accusation of extensive EVM tampering, Ahmed dismissed the claims outright, stating there was no evidence to support them. According to him, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists—another issue highlighted by Congress—was not a matter of serious concern on the ground.
The former leader also alleged corruption within the Congress during ticket distribution for the Bihar polls, suggesting internal manipulation and favouritism may have weakened the party’s chances.
On the EVM controversy specifically, Shakeel Ahmed was categorical:
“I do not have any proof.”
His resignation and remarks have triggered a new round of debate within the Congress, raising questions about internal accountability, electoral strategy, and the party’s approach to post-poll narratives.
