The government has increased the minimum waiting period for booking a refill of domestic LPG cylinders from 21 days to 25 days. The decision has been taken to prevent hoarding and ensure fair distribution of cooking gas across the country, according to government sources quoted by news agency PTI.

Officials said the move is part of precautionary steps taken amid the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East, which has raised concerns over global energy supply chains.

Despite the tensions, authorities have assured that there is no immediate shortage of fuel supplies in India. Sources indicated that petrol and diesel prices are expected to remain stable unless global crude oil prices cross the USD 130 per barrel mark.

Current estimates suggest that crude oil prices could remain close to USD 100 per barrel, which would help maintain relative stability in domestic fuel prices.

Government officials also confirmed that there is adequate availability of petrol and diesel across the country. Fuel supplies at retail outlets remain stable, and there has been no disruption in distribution.

In order to reduce risks linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, India has stepped up crude oil procurement from alternative routes outside the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies.

Authorities further noted that the country currently holds sufficient reserves of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), dismissing concerns about shortages in aviation fuel.

Officials pointed out that India is not only a consumer but also a producer and exporter of ATF, which provides additional security for aviation fuel availability.

According to sources, India is relatively better positioned than several other nations in handling potential energy disruptions. Some countries have reportedly reached out to Indian authorities to understand the country’s fuel stock levels and preparedness in managing supply challenges.
