Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hoisted the dharma-dhwaj (saffron flag) atop the newly completed Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, marking a historic cultural milestone for the nation. The ceremony symbolised the formal completion of the temple’s construction—a moment that PM Modi described as the fulfillment of a “500-year-long resolve”.

Addressing devotees after the ceremony, the Prime Minister said that the saffron flag atop the temple represents the resurgence of Indian civilisation. He added that the event reflects the healing of “centuries-old wounds” and the culmination of an uninterrupted struggle rooted in faith and devotion.

A Historic Cultural Awakening

PM Modi emphasised that the day marked not just a ritual, but a civilisational awakening.
“Every Ram bhakt’s heart is filled with deep satisfaction and divine joy. A centuries-long yajna has finally reached completion,” he said.

He also highlighted how the Sapt Mandapam of the Ram Temple embodies values such as friendship, duty, and harmony, adding that Lord Ram unites the nation through emotion and devotion, not lineage.

Call for a Developed India by 2047

From the temple site, the Prime Minister urged citizens to contribute to making India a developed country by 2047, when the nation celebrates 100 years of independence. He stressed the need to shed the “mentality of slavery” and embrace the nation’s heritage with pride.

“India is the mother of democracy. Democracy is in our DNA,” PM Modi said, countering historical claims that Indian governance structures were borrowed from foreign constitutions.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Remarks

RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat also addressed the gathering, saying that the souls of those who sacrificed their lives for the temple must have found peace today.

He noted that even if the long struggle is overlooked, the last 30 years have been crucial in achieving this milestone.
“Hindus have proved their commitment through a 500-year struggle. Now Ram Lalla is here, and the temple stands tall,” he said, urging citizens to uphold truth and dharma.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath’s Reaction

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath called the occasion a moment of immense national pride.

“This sacred day belongs to the saints, warriors, and devotees who dedicated their lives to this movement,” he said, praising the culmination of a historic journey.
