A terrifying incident unfolded in Kerala’s Idukki district on Friday when a sky-dining platform malfunctioned, leaving several tourists suspended nearly 120 feet above the ground for more than 90 minutes. The mishap occurred at a private adventure tourism facility in Anachal, near Munnar, after the crane lifting the dining platform reportedly suffered a technical failure.

The aerial dining experience, which has been operating for only a few months, allows up to 16 visitors to enjoy a meal while elevated above scenic valleys. On Friday, the crane operating the elevated dining table encountered a mechanical issue — believed to be linked to a fuse failure — preventing the platform from being lowered.

Rescue Mission Under Way

Fire and rescue teams from Munnar rushed to the spot and launched multiple rescue strategies. Among the options being considered are:

  • Lowering tourists one by one using safety ropes
  • Attempting to manually override the crane mechanism
  • Working with engineers to restore the faulty system

Authorities confirmed that all stranded individuals remain safe as the rescue operation continues.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of anxiety among the trapped tourists, though staff members onboard reportedly helped keep the group calm while awaiting rescue.

Officials said a detailed investigation will be conducted to determine how a newly installed adventure system developed such a critical fault.
