India strongly criticised Pakistan on Tuesday for commenting on the Dhwajarohan (flag-hoisting) ceremony at the newly completed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, asserting that Islamabad has “no moral standing” to lecture any country, especially given its poor human rights record.
The sharp statement came after Pakistan objected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting a saffron flag atop the spire of the Ram temple — a symbolic ceremony marking the completion of its construction.
An official spokesperson said Pakistan should “focus on improving its own abysmal record on human rights and minority persecution rather than commenting on India’s internal religious and cultural matters.”
The response highlighted India’s position that the Ram Mandir event was a domestic religious ceremony, and criticism from Pakistan was both unwarranted and politically motivated.
Prime Minister Modi performed the Dhwajarohan ritual in Ayodhya on Tuesday, a key ceremony signifying the final stages of the temple’s establishment. The event drew significant national attention, with leaders and devotees across the country marking the occasion.
Ties between India and Pakistan remain strained, and such diplomatic exchanges reflect the ongoing tensions over cultural, political, and security issues.
