In a major step toward streamlining Aadhaar services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is preparing to launch a new mobile application called e-Aadhaar, designed to make updating Aadhaar details simpler, faster, and entirely digital.

The e-Aadhaar app aims to empower citizens to update their personal details such as address, phone number, and date of birth directly through their smartphones—without visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

📱 A Step Toward Complete Digitization

Currently, updating Aadhaar details like name, date of birth, or address requires a physical visit to an Aadhaar centre along with supporting documents.

However, once launched, the e-Aadhaar app will bring this process online. Users will be able to submit their updates through a secure digital interface by uploading or verifying documents linked with government databases such as passports, driving licences, and birth certificates.

As per reports by Paisabazaar, the app will guide users through a few simple steps to modify their demographic details—ensuring updates are completed without physical verification.

🔐 Enhanced Security Through AI & Facial Recognition

The UIDAI has also focused on strengthening the security architecture of the new platform. The app will include Artificial Intelligence (AI) and facial recognition technology to verify users and prevent identity fraud.

“The e-Aadhaar app will use advanced facial matching systems to ensure that only legitimate users can modify their Aadhaar data,” a UIDAI source shared.

While demographic updates (like address or phone number) will be available online, biometric changes such as fingerprints or iris scans will continue to require a physical visit to Aadhaar centres—ensuring a balance between convenience and data integrity.

⚙️ How e-Aadhaar Will Work

  • Connects with verified government databases for automatic document validation.
  • Allows users to update address, contact number, and date of birth instantly.
  • Integrates with AI and facial recognition systems for identity verification.
  • Offers real-time progress tracking and status updates within the app.

This integration will reduce processing errors, curb fraud, and significantly speed up update times, allowing many requests to be completed within hours instead of days.

💡 Additional Benefits for Citizens

The e-Aadhaar app will:

  • Save citizens time and travel costs by eliminating the need for physical visits.
  • Reduce paperwork and queues at Aadhaar Seva Kendras.
  • Allow remote management of Aadhaar profiles anytime, anywhere.
  • Strengthen data accuracy and transparency across the Aadhaar ecosystem.

The move is in line with India’s broader Digital India mission, aiming to make essential government services accessible through technology.

🚀 Launch Timeline and Availability

According to reports, the e-Aadhaar app will roll out by the end of 2025 for both Android and iOS platforms.

Once launched, the app will complement existing digital platforms such as DigiLocker and UMANG, becoming an integral part of India’s digital identity ecosystem.

By combining security, convenience, and cutting-edge technology, the e-Aadhaar app is expected to transform the way citizens manage their Aadhaar details—bringing government services closer to every Indian’s smartphone.
