In an aggressive push towards greener mobility, the Delhi government is working on a fresh EV Policy 2.0 that could make hybrid vehicles significantly more affordable. If finalized, popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid and Toyota Hyryder could become cheaper by almost 10%!
According to reports, Delhi’s government has circulated a draft of the new EV policy among leading domestic and international automakers to gather feedback. Under this proposal, road tax and registration fees would be fully waived for electric vehicles and strong hybrid cars priced up to ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom).
This move mirrors a similar initiative taken by Uttar Pradesh earlier. However, it’s important to note that only strong hybrids and plug-in hybrids would benefit — mild hybrid vehicles will not be eligible for these exemptions.
Currently, buyers of hybrid cars priced above ₹10 lakh in Delhi pay a hefty 10% RTO tax. With the new policy, hybrid models like the Grand Vitara (within the ₹20 lakh bracket) would be exempt, translating to a direct price reduction of nearly 10% — making green vehicles more attractive to budget-conscious buyers.
While this policy is still awaiting final approval, it’s clear that Delhi is gearing up to accelerate the adoption of clean mobility solutions in a big way.
