Five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly considering key changes to their squad ahead of the next IPL season. As per reports, the franchise has been asked to retain four players and release two, with major decisions expected in the coming weeks.

Among the developments, CSK is said to be in advanced talks with Rajasthan Royals (RR) over a potential swap deal involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson. If finalized, it would mark Jadeja’s return to the team where he began his IPL journey back in 2007.

However, CSK legend Suresh Raina believes that the franchise should not part ways with the star all-rounder.

“Ravindra Jadeja should be retained again. He is a gun player for CSK and has done really well for the team over the years, so ‘Sir Ravindra Jadeja’ has to be there,”
said Raina on JioStar.

Raina’s Suggested Retention List

Raina backed the franchise to keep faith in MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Noor Ahmad, alongside Jadeja, for the upcoming season.

“Noor Ahmad should be retained. He’s a mystery spinner, so he must be kept. MS Dhoni should definitely be retained — he’s playing this year, so he should stay. Ruturaj Gaikwad should continue as captain,” Raina added.

Who Should Be Released

The former CSK vice-captain also suggested that Devon Conway, Vijay Shankar, and Deepak Hooda be released, citing inconsistent performances during the IPL 2025 season, when the team finished 10th on the points table.

“Devon Conway should be released. CSK need a local opener, which they’ll look for in the mini-auction. Vijay Shankar and Deepak Hooda should also be released — both got their chances last year, but the results weren’t convincing,” Raina said.

CSK’s Challenging 2025 Season

CSK endured a difficult IPL 2025, managing only four wins in 14 matches. The campaign was further derailed when captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out midway due to injury, forcing MS Dhoni to step in once again.

Despite the setback, team management remains optimistic about rebuilding a strong core around their senior players and exploring new domestic talent in the upcoming mini-auction.
