The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has announced a scheduled power shutdown across multiple areas in Chennai on Thursday, November 13, to carry out routine maintenance work. The power outage will last from 9 AM to 2 PM, and electricity supply will be restored earlier if the work concludes ahead of schedule.
TANGEDCO’s Announcement
In its official notification, TANGEDCO stated that the power interruption is part of essential maintenance operations aimed at improving distribution efficiency and infrastructure reliability. The shutdown will impact both residential and commercial users in selected zones.
“Power supply will resume before the scheduled time if the maintenance work is completed early,” the Electricity Board clarified.

The following areas in Chennai will be affected by Thursday’s maintenance shutdown:
Mango Forest Region & Nearby Localities:
Avadi Road, Magizham Avenue, Pooncholai Road, MSS Nagar, Atco Nagar, Mettu Street, Sippy Nagar, Father Periyar Nagar, Kamaraj Nagar, Murugapillai Nagar, Gangai Amman Kovil Street, Vinayaka Nagar, Korimedu, Bazaar Street, Kannampulla Chetty Street, Amman Kovil Street, and Kundrathur Road.
Mathur and Surrounding Areas:
MMDA 1st to 3rd Main Road, Indian Bank locality, and TNHP Lakeview Residence.
TANGEDCO has advised residents and businesses in these areas to plan their power-dependent activities accordingly and ensure backup arrangements if necessary.
Weather Update: Rains and Strong Winds Continue
Meanwhile, Chennai has been experiencing heavy rainfall and gusty winds since Tuesday, leading to waterlogging in several neighborhoods. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) recorded a maximum temperature of 29°C and forecasted a minimum of around 26°C.
Fishermen have been cautioned to stay away from the sea due to rough conditions. The weather department also urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel near low-lying waterlogged areas.
