Bihar made electoral history on Tuesday as the state recorded its highest-ever voter turnout of 67.14% by 5 PM in the second phase of Assembly Elections 2025, according to data released by the Election Commission.

Officials said the final numbers may rise further once all polling station reports are compiled, potentially pushing participation beyond previous records.

Unprecedented Participation Across Districts

The polling covered 94 constituencies across 17 districts, including key battlegrounds such as Patna, Nalanda, Begusarai, Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Samastipur.

Election officials credited the surge in voter participation to increased awareness campaigns, improved electoral logistics, and smooth polling operations.

Women, first-time voters, and rural constituencies saw notably higher turnout, with several districts crossing the 70% mark.

“This turnout reflects the people’s strong faith in the democratic process and their desire for a better Bihar,” said an Election Commission spokesperson.

Peaceful Polling Under Tight Security

Polling remained largely peaceful, with no major incidents of violence or booth capturing reported. Over 1.2 lakh security personnel, including paramilitary forces, were deployed to ensure law and order across all polling stations.

In several sensitive areas, drone surveillance and live web monitoring were implemented to track voter flow and prevent malpractice.

Voter Enthusiasm Peaks

Long queues were seen outside polling booths since early morning, with voters braving the heat to cast their votes. Many polling stations in rural Bihar reported record participation among women and elderly voters.

Social media platforms were flooded with images of inked fingers, as citizens celebrated the massive voter turnout as a symbol of political awakening in the state.

Political Stakes High

This phase is seen as crucial for both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition INDIA bloc.
Key leaders, including Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav, and Chirag Paswan, had intensified campaigning in these constituencies, making this round a decisive one ahead of the November 14 results.

Political analysts suggest that the high turnout may indicate strong voter engagement and closely fought contests, especially in constituencies where margins were narrow in the previous elections.

A Landmark in Bihar’s Electoral Journey

The previous record turnout in the state stood at 57.33% during the 2020 Assembly Elections.
Crossing 67% marks a 10-point jump, highlighting both organizational efficiency and voter motivation.

As Bihar sets a new benchmark in electoral participation, the results on November 14 will determine whether this record turnout signals continuity or change in the state’s political landscape.
