Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Monday inaugurated the state’s first Wonderla amusement park, built at Thiruporur in Chengalpattu district with an investment of ₹611 crore. The mega project is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, significantly boosting the region’s tourism and entertainment sectors.
The inauguration was held through video conferencing in the presence of Industries Minister T. R. B. Rajaa, MSME Minister T. M. Anbarasan, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and senior officials.
Developed by Wonderla Holidays, India’s largest amusement and water park chain, the newly launched Wonderla Chennai spans a vast 64-acre campus. It features:
- 43 world-class rides across high-thrill, family, kids, & water categories
- 8 themed dining spaces
- Capacity to host 6,500+ visitors per day
- 1,000 KW solar energy system
- Extensive rainwater harvesting setup
- 32,000 sqm of landscaped greenery with 1,000 native trees
Arun K. Chittilappilly (Executive Chairman and MD), Dheeran Choudhary (COO), and Vyshakh Ravindran (Park Head, Chennai) were present during the event.
Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state’s investment promotion agency, said the project marks a major milestone in the state’s “experience-driven investments,” enhancing Chennai’s growing entertainment ecosystem.
Wonderla Chennai is the fifth Wonderla park in India and the first in Tamil Nadu. It will officially open to the public on December 2.
