India Turns to Russia for Energy Security as Oil Imports Surge Amid Hormuz Tensions

India is rapidly reshaping its energy strategy as supply concerns grow due to rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. In response to the uncertainty, Russia has stepped up with an offer to significantly expand oil and LNG exports to India.

During recent discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to increase energy supplies to meet India’s growing demand.

The shift is already visible in trade data, with India’s imports of Russian crude witnessing a sharp 90% increase in March. This surge highlights New Delhi’s proactive approach to securing reliable energy sources at a time when global supply chains remain under pressure.
