The Government of India has firmly rejected speculation that it had advance knowledge of the recent military strikes on Iran by Israel and the United States during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel.
Responding to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh clarified that no discussions related to any potential military action took place during the visit. The statement came after IUML MP Abdul Wahab questioned whether India had prior information about the strikes that followed shortly after the Prime Minister’s trip.
The minister stated that the discussions between PM Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were focused on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing broader regional and global developments of mutual interest. He reiterated that the issue of military action against Iran was not part of those conversations.
Speculation had emerged due to the timing of the visit, which occurred just a day before the conflict escalated. Reports also highlighted that the United States had deployed significant naval assets near Iran ahead of the strikes, further fuelling assumptions of possible prior awareness.
Addressing concerns over the ongoing situation in West Asia, the government emphasised that it is closely monitoring developments and actively engaging in diplomatic outreach. Prime Minister Modi has been in contact with leaders from multiple countries across the region, including Israel, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States, urging restraint and dialogue.
The Ministry of External Affairs has prioritised the safety of Indian nationals amid the conflict. According to official data, more than 47,500 Indians have returned safely since tensions escalated. Authorities have also ensured the secure movement of critical supplies, including LPG shipments, through strategic routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
Reaffirming its stance, India continues to advocate for peaceful resolution through diplomacy while simultaneously safeguarding its energy security and citizens abroad.
